The Peak of Itambé park is located in the middle of this Espinhasse mountain range (300 km north of the capital Belo Horizonte), the village of São Antonio do Itambé is located at the foot of the peak, on the south side.
On the north side, you can find the village of Capivari and the other Milho Verde, a historic town and also São Gonzalo on the river das Pedras.
It was created on January 21, 1998, involving the municipalities of Serro, São Antonio do Itambé and Serra Azul, which covered more or less 4,700 hectares with native vegetation cover typical of the Alto Jequitinhonha region.
